When you are planning a wedding or other event in Gloucestershire during the spring and summer, it seems a shame not to enjoy some of the wonderful scenery the county has to offer. Even in cooler months, you can still enjoy an outdoor wedding through the use of marquees and other similar facilities. Here are a few of our favourites.
Choosing a marquee wedding
A marquee is a popular choice for weddings for a number of reasons. They hold more people than indoor facilities do and they are highly customisable. Often, couples work with furniture hire companies as well as outdoor caterers to ensure they get the exact look and feel of the venue that they want and that fits in with the theme of the day.
Marquee venues
Many venues offer the option of having your wedding reception in a marquee as well as or in place of the main building. This combines the flexibility of the marquee with the ability to stay in the main venue buildings and enjoy the scenery and stunning architecture of some of Gloucestershire’s best buildings.
Homme House
Homme House sits on the border with Worcestershire and Herefordshire and has five acres of stunning gardens with another 180 acres of woodland and parkland around that. There is the main house which is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and a Summerhouse dating from the 17th century. The marquee is erected in the spacious lawn area and can hold up to 140 people. There are 14 guest rooms including the Bridal Suite.
Lodge Park
Lodge Park is a 17th century grandstand that was built for the people of Cheltenham and is now run by the National Trust. There is a Great Hall and a Little Hall, holding 50 to 100 guests and there is a Grand Portico holding 250. There is room on the lawns for a marquee for the reception so enough flexibility for all weddings or events.
Penyard House
Penyard House is a relatively new addition to outdoor weddings with the ability of an outdoor ceremony space having been added this year. There is also a wedding gazebo that can hold up to 100 guests. Indoors, the house is filled with antique furniture and period interiors that make for a perfect wedding backdrop.
Foxhill Manor
Foxhill Manor is a traditional Cotswold Manor that has been recently refurbished to modernise the facilities while maintaining all the classic features. It is a Grade II listed building with eight bedrooms a Ballroom, a media room, sweeping staircase and also great outdoor facilities. There is a terrace for a marquee and an orangery for those in and out occasions. It even has outdoor bean bags for the kids to enjoy.
Jenners Barn
For fans of camping, Jenners Barn will offer the chance to enjoy outside events and camping all in one site. The barn has a bar, kitchen and fire pit as well as an extensive outdoor area where the marquee is erected. This is heated and well lit for winter weddings while there are also free camping areas available for those who love to bring their own accommodation.
